Writing on paper ?

My first problem is this : do we need to print on paper ?

And the answer is not so obvious.

Paper is not resistent to water, it is too weak to endure time.

What are the material(s) which could be used instead of paper ?

I will be waiting for someone to work a bit on that please, while I'm working on other projects, but to give you a clue, I'm thinking about stone, metals, or some well spread materials from today, without petrol, so not-plastic like...

Paper is from trees, can we find something else ?

Glass ? (I love this last one, but heh it's also over fragile...)
