(Related post = /oshw_paper_printer )

My first problem is this : do we need to print on paper ?

And the answer is not so obvious.

Paper is not resistent to water, it is too weak to endure time.

What are the material(s) which could be used instead of paper ?

I will be waiting for someone to work a bit on that please, while I'm working on other projects, but to give you a clue, I'm thinking about stone, metals, or some well spread materials from today, without petrol, so not-plastic like...

Paper is from trees, can we find something else ?

Glass ? (I love this last one, but heh it's also over fragile...)

one month ago I'v posted something : EMBOSSING ALUMINIUM PAPER (those rolls from the kitchen!)

They are cheap and sold everywhere.

Aluminium properties are excellent to make books and, embossing (or engraving which is the opposite tech) would be easy.

Keeping the embossing intact after printing is the problem.

As there's only solutions, We just need to keep the embossed "pages" protected from human touch ("Errare Humanum Est" aka PEBCAK !)

And to achieve this, what about :

1/ Recharge the printer with a new Alu roll (30cm large, 30 meters long !)

2/ Print with an OSHW machine (to be created ! thingers in the nose)

3/ Insert the Printed "pages" into a new form of book.

(been drawing those already, and there's several possibilities)

I called those new books : Readers, not books. Like a e-book Reader. (remember papyrus rolls ?) ;)

TTYL ! <3.

There's tons of projects around this in the Maker Movement (plotters and co.) .

This link pointing to "Hack a Day" is one of them.

As said before, the main problem is on the software side.
